Started in January 1985 by Dr. Ivan R. Misner, Founder & Chairman of BNI. BNI provides a positive, supportive, and structured environment for men and women to further their business through word-of-mouth marketing.
Networking requires commitment. The most successful chapters of BNI are comprised of participants who are sincerely committed to helping one another through networking. They are a team. As a participant in BNI, you are responsible for complying with the policies and guidelines of the organization*. A partial list of the policies of BNI are listed below:
(*) Note: In the event that BNI's general rules could potentially violate a professional's ethical code, the professional's ethics code shall govern.
What you should know:
Only one person from each professional specialty is permitted to join a chapter of BNI.
All participants should represent their primary occupation, not a part-time business.
Attendance is critical. If you cannot attend a meeting, you may send a substitute. This will not count as an absence.
Participation in the chapter by members is a key to the success of a group. Members can participate by bringing bona-fide referrals and/or visitors to their BNI chapter.
Being a member of BNI is all about commitment - the respect and dedication you provide for your business peers will be matched by their commitment to you - unlike any other networking organisation, we believe that this reciprocal process is what we pay our fees for. Just like many other communication processes, it is important to strike up the commitment first - this is our golden rule - when we say 'Givers Gain' we invariably mean people who give first will gain the most - this is what kicks off the vigorous referral finding process.
A huge part of our commitment to each other is written in our code of ethics and if we stick to these we shall continue to have a flourishing business group. Commitment includes respect - being patient with our peers as they educate us about their business, listening to their referral requests and acting upon them. Respect for each other also includes our attitude to attendance and training as well as tolerance. We've all heard the phrase,' you've got to be in it to win it!' our phrase would be, 'you've got to be there to share!'. Book your introductory visit now.
There are one year and two year participation options. See the Secretary/Treasurer of the chapter you visit for prices. If you apply to participate in BNI, your application will be reviewed by the chapter's Membership Committee, and you will be notified of the status before the next meeting.
